Historic game boards carved into stone in Trogir, Croatia

The Slovak Academy of Sciences has published an article on an international research team studying medieval game boards in Trogir, Croatia, with support from COST Action CA22145 – GameTable.

The collaboration brings together the Institute of Archaeology of the Slovak Academy of Sciences, the Trogir City Museum and the University of Reading. The team includes Branislav Kovár, Anton Arpáš, Lujana Paraman, Aleksandra Matura, Summer Courts and Tim Penn.

Researchers documented 32 game boards around St Lawrence’s Cathedral and six near the Church of St John the Baptist. Close-range photogrammetry was used to create 3D models, helping to investigate the role of games in medieval public and religious spaces.
